El folklore de La Gomera tiene algo exclusivo dentro del folklore del archipiélago: el baile del tambor, que es un canto y danza ancestral, único en el mundo hispánico, por la arcaica combinación del canto de los romances con la danza de filas enfrentadas, propia de la música y coreografía de las islas. La letra de los cantos está formada por poemas épicos o amorosos de tipo narrativo, que cuentan una historia completa.
